The Impact of Contingency Theory on Organizational Performance - Applied to Epidemic Diseases

Maryam Abdullah Salem Al-Mazrouei presented in her research the impact of contingency theory on the performance of institutions - applied to epidemic diseases, during the celebration of Gate Academy Mayli.

Introduction:

The world has recently witnessed numerous crises and emergencies politically, economically, socially, and health-wise, which have had a significant impact on the economies of many countries and institutions of all kinds. Health crises and epidemic diseases pose the most dangerous challenges to institutions at all economic, social, cultural, educational, and administrative levels, as they lead to a state of reduced organizational capacity, performance, and hence productivity. On the other hand, they also affect human resources, as epidemics spread rapidly and affect many individuals at once. In order to find a way to deal with crises, contingency theory was one of the tools for this purpose. It refers to actions taken after the occurrence of materially different circumstances from those considered at the time of its emergence, such as the emergence of an unusual real-life situation that poses a serious threat to the general system, such as wars, internal unrest and civil wars, or natural disasters. The basis for contingency theory lies in the principles of justice and public interest, which contribute to the ability of institutions to maintain their position, in addition to the ability of the economy as a whole to withstand.

Contingency Theory and Its Application to Epidemic Diseases:

Contingency theory, especially concerning epidemic diseases, has an impact on the performance and efficiencies of institutions. Epidemic diseases create a state of disruption within institutions and compel them to use new methods to address the effects resulting from this emergency situation.

Research Problem:

Given the importance of studying contingency theory and its relationship with the performance of institutions in general, and especially in the context of infectious and rapidly spreading diseases, and their implications at various levels, the research problem of the study is based on researching and analyzing the impact of contingency theory on the performance of institutions, applied to epidemic diseases. The main question of the study is "What is the impact of contingency theory on the performance of institutions - applied to epidemic diseases?"

Sub-Research Questions:

- What is contingency theory?

- What are the conditions of contingency theory?

- What are the types of institutions?

- How does contingency theory affect the performance of institutions?

Significance of the Study:

The study is significant for business management studies and administrative law, and it is divided into two sections:

- Scientific Significance: The scientific significance lies in enhancing the scientific library with a new study on the impact of contingency theory on the performance of institutions, focusing on epidemics specifically, which benefits researchers, interested parties, and project owners in obtaining information about this theory and its importance.

- Practical Significance: The practical significance lies in providing decision-makers, businessmen, and project owners with information and data about the role and impact of contingency theory on the performance pattern of institutions, especially in the context of crises and epidemics.

Study Objectives:

- To identify contingency theory.

- To know the conditions of contingency theory.

- To identify the types of institutions and their classifications.

- To understand the extent to which contingency theory affects the performance of institutions.

Methodology:

The current study followed a descriptive-analytical and quantitative approach, which focuses on collecting data using quantitative measurement tools applied to a representative sample of the original community, where statistical and analytical methods are used to reach specific results in light of the hypotheses and questions developed in advance. Data collection was primarily through a questionnaire designed specifically for this purpose.
